Stay At Home Parents

Stay at home parents need life insurance too.   Both spouses, regardless of their working status, probably need some form of level term life insurance.

This applies to stay at home moms and stay at home dads.

Stay at Home Parents and Life Insurance Considerations:

In general it is a good idea for consumers to research how much life insurance that they stay at home parent needs.  Generally though they will be limited to purchasing less life insurance than the working spouse.

Consider Level Term Life Insurance for Both Parents.

A couple of key decisions for Stay at home moms and stay at home dads to consider about buying level term life insurance:

  • It is generally easier to buy life insurance, before you are pregnant.
  • The working spouse may need to have slightly more insurance than the non working spouse.
  • Shoot for a term policy length that ensures there will be money until your kids are out of the house.  In other words a twenty year term policy for a family who has a youngest child of five.
  • Buy life insurance with an eye towards affordability.

Keep these basics in mind when shopping for term life for a stay at home parent.
